Camden is introducing this from December, but while other boroughs are moving towards a completely cashless system, in Camden traditional pay and display machines will still (in our view rightly and importantly) accept coins. The new system will allow drivers to use their mobile phones, smart phones, or go online to pay to park.
Motorists who pay by mobile or smart phone can get an optional text reminder of when a motorist's parking is due to expire. Users of smart phones including Blackberry, iPhone and Android will be able to download a parking app which can control and monitor all aspects of their parking in real-time. In addition the apps will allow you to see your parking history in an instant, and change or add vehicles to your account. The cost of using the service will be the same as paying by cash at the machine. Optional text reminders and confirmation texts are charged at 10p each.
The system will be provided by Parkmobile. Street signs and information on pay and display machines will show where cashless parking is available. Motorists wishing to register to use the cashless parking service can do so for free in one of three ways:
* Over the phone calling 020 3003 2532
* Online at either Camden.gov.uk/parking or with Parkmobile at parkmobile.co.uk
* Via the Parkmobile parking app which can be downloaded from Blackberry’s App World, Apple’s App store or Androids Market
Motorists who have used the Parkmobile service in other locations in and around London will not need to register again and will be able to park using the cashless service straight away. More information at camden.gov.uk/parking.
